The Blue And The Greens Of Dehradun - Travel Blog Day 1 - Letters From A Nomad - travel blog

Welcome digital nomads, join me on the ultimate adventure that never ends. Each of our life is made up of our experiences and stories that define us. travel is not just about seeing the beauty of the place and an instagram post. Its a feeling, millions of stories of different people around the world, the experience and above all peace.

You may have heard of the most famous tourist attraction in Dehradun, well, so did I and there couldn't have been a better time than monsoon to go there. On my 5 days long trip of Dehradun, the day 1 was the most hectic of them all.

When you travel alone there is so much that can go wrong and I was in no mood to make anything worse. I had the 1.15pm flight from Bhubaneswar which is my hometown to Delhi terminal IGIT 3. I landed at terminal three at Indra Gandhi airport sharp at 4.05pm and my Delhi to Dehradun flight was at 4.45pm. ( protip: don't keep flight schedule so close as you may miss the flight if they are not at the same terminal.)

With no time to spare, I rushed out to the exit and ordered a cab to terminal 1. I thought I was going to miss my fight but after I arrived at terminal 1 and checked in I found out that my flight was delayed at it will be boarding at 5.30 instead. I took the breath of relief and went to the washroom to freshen up a bit.

After that, I went to the nearby food stall and ordered a plate of pasta as I had no time nor the appetite to eat anything but had to eat to keep my body moving. finally, there was an announcement that all the passengers to Dehradun report at gate 32 to board.

It was I guess 6.05 when we finally boarded the flight. When the flight takes off I could see the sunset at a distant but I wished that I could see the sunset at Dehradun but, my bad I guess. There was no one sitting beside me so I decided to shift to the window seat.

It was about 45 mins after that the pilot announced we will be landing shortly in Dehradun airport. I got ready and packed up my laptop and put in my backpack and got ready for the landing. I could still see the crimson-colored that filled the sky and it was not yet nightfall there. apparently, nightfall at Dehradun happens at 7.30 in June.

I got out of the plane and it was really pleasant weather there, not too hot for June. I booked the room at the hotel forest avenue with make my trip so it was a hell lot cheaper than booking on destination and I even got a compliment ride to the hotel from the airport.

I will add a link to the best hotels and homestays in Dehradun at the end of the blog. The hotel I was staying was near the Mussoorie diversion road and as it was night time it took us nearly 2 hrs to get there. There was a lot of traffic as some of the roads to Rishikesh were being rebuilt. It was 8 pm when I reached there and man was I tired. I decided to rest for 1 more hour before calling for dinner.

I didn't know at that time that I had a room with a view( I now understand what Ruskin bond was saying). I opened the drapes and man were the lights beautiful. From which room I was staying I could see mountains and lights but nothing much was visible as it was night so here is a picture of what I saw.

I ordered curd and rice, jeera aloo and achar. and yes it is my go-to food when I travel it is light, it gives enough energy and it is easy to digest so that's what I ate for the night and man did I sleep hard.
