Robber's Cave And Pacific Mall - Dehradun Travel Blog Day 2 - Letters From A Nomad - travel blog

Welcome digital nomads, join me on the ultimate adventure that never ends. Each of our life is made up of our experiences and stories that define us. travel is not just about seeing the beauty of the place and an instagram post. Its a feeling, millions of stories of different people around the world, the experience and above all peace.

You know what is the most horrendous thing for a solo traveler? the sound of thunder and rain and that is exactly what happened to me on the second day of my trip to Dehradun. But you know what my father says " there is no such thing as bad weather ", and that is exactly what I kept in my mind. I got out of my bed and order some coffee and bread for my breakfast. I already had everything planned out for the day but the stupid rain, I thought was going to ruin it all. but to my surprise when I got out of the shower there was a ray of sweet sunshine and man was I the luckiest person in the world.

With no time to waste, I went to the restaurant in my hotel and ordered " aloo ka paratha " and some curd. After that, I got ready and went to talk to the manager to see if he could fix me up with a cab. But after listening to the price there was no way in hell I will give so much for such a small ride.

And I'm not blaming them for such huge prices it's just that the drivers suck a huge amount of cash from the travelers and the foreigners so beware to such ridiculous charges. ( pro tip: always, first check if there is uber or ola or any local cab booking app that worked in your area because they will only charge the proper amount)

I downloaded ola and uber both of them but uber wasn't available in Dehra so it was OLA to my rescue. You can also rent a scooter or a bike if you want there are numerous shops and online booking sites for the same.

It was about 10.45 when my OLA cab arrived and I was off to my first place that was the robber's cave. it was the most hyped places in Dehra and I had kind of high expectations from it.

history class: robber's cave is a little hideout where the theaves used to sell, share and exchange the products they stole.

From the hotel forest avenue where I was staying it was about 20 mins ride to the robber's cave or cove, ( pro tip: always make sure to book the hotel or your homestay from where it will be easier for you to go to the places you want to go ), and for the first half I saw beautiful rain clouds covered mountains and for the next half, I was stuck in the traffic. not that I was complaining or anything but I could see black clouds again covering the sky.

( pro tip: always get up and go early for such a crowded location or you will also be stuck in the traffic for 30 mins like I was )

When I reached there it was again drizzling down rain. I knew it was going to be a problem as I decided to come here during monsoon but I didn't imagine it to be such a difficulty for me.

It was a short walk from the parking area to the main water stream. It was really relaxing to walk beside the water stream and it was really beautiful as the clouds were playing hide and seek with the mountains. I thought of buying some food but as expected the prices were ridiculous, so I bought only a packet of lays and a juice can.

When I finally reached the main location I was disappointed. It was nothing like what I saw in the picture of the robber's caves and there was a hell of a lot of people there. It was packed up to the brim. But I didn't come here to get sad and go back. So I folded my jeans and got into the water. Took some shots for my Instagram and I even asked a few strangers to click my photos and " thanks to all the stranges who took my pic and effectively ruined it".

After spending 30 mins in the water and taking a million pics when my feets decided not to move because of the cold I thought it was time for me to go back. I told my OLA driver to make it a return journey ad he agreed to it for a little extra charge. Originally the driver that the hotel manager suggested said he will take 1300 rs for this trip and my OLA driver took only 450 rs from me, it was like one-third of the price.

It was about 1.30 when I reached the hotel and I was still hungry for adventure but the rain had other plans for me. I made a quick call to my mom to say that everything was going five ( typical Indian moms *sighs* ).

It was raining but I had to go out. now my original plan was to go to the mindrolling monastery but seeing the weather I change my plans. I was supposed to go to the pacific mall ( the largest mall in Dehra ) on the last day of the Dehra trip but I thought I would be for the best to go today as it was at a walkable distance from my hotel.

So I got out of my room after drying and decided to take a walk. I was half the way across when it again started raining and lucky for me I saw a line auto and got a ride to the mall. I literally felt like a local at that point. I reached the mall after 5 mins and I was hungry as hell. I went to the top floor which was all food section and ordered 2 burgers and diet coke and fried momos.

It was indeed a large mall with many gaming stations on the ground floor but I had no time to play there and I had to do some shopping for myself and mom and dad. I bought a flip-flop for myself as my shoes were really hurting my feet. ( pro tip: wear a clog or crocs when you have a hardcore schedule during your travel ). I bought a perfume for dad and a book for mom. It was about 4.30 when and I was done with the shopping so I decided to head back. I walked to my hotel room and still had some energy left in me. So I dragged my chair near to the window and worked a bit on my blog and updated my Instagram feed and talked to a few friends.

The sunset and the coffee is probably the best combination. It was a beautiful ending to my day and man I wish I had the view from my home.
