Top 10 Places To Visit In Shimla, shimla travel guide, himachal travel guide, travel guid, digital nomad

Popularly known as the queen of hill stations, the city itself and the places nearby never cease to amaze with their endearing beauty. With snow-covered mountains, breathtaking lakes, pleasant climate, and alluring greenery – Shimla offers everything one can ask for.

Shimla is definitely one of the most visited tourist destinations in India. So, here are my top 10 places to visit in Shimla.

1. The Ridge

This is the most popular point in Shimla. Located on the Mall road, at the heart of Shimla, this is a much loved and enjoyed stretch here, where visitors come and soak themselves in the views of surrounding areas.

2. Kufri

Kufri is known for its tranquil surroundings, breathtaking views as well as distinct stunning locales, it is known as one of the best places to visit in Shimla. Kufri is popular as the Switzerland of the East.

It is located 20 km from the state capital Shimla on the National Highway No.22.

3. Tattapani

With breathtaking views and calm and divine place to drown your soul and relax Tattapani is one of my favourite places on the list ( only if it wasn't filled with tourists).

Literally meaning hot water in Hindi, Tattapani is a small village located 51km away from Shimla. This place is famous for hot water springs and the famous Shiva caves.

4. Shimla Reserve Forest Sanctuary

It is located 7 km from the city centre and a must-go place for all wildlife enthusiast. Popularly for its rare variety of flora and fauna, this wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit. Animals such as jackals, barking deer, monkeys and leopards are commonly sighted here.

5. Chail (15 Km from the city centre )

Chail is the ultimate place for setting up summer camps in a snow-clad town. It is a small hill slope in Shimla that was built solely for the purpose of helping people escape from summer heats. It is located 15 Km from the city centre.

The lush green outfields, dense cover of deodar and pine trees and the stunning views of the mountains along with the breathtaking natural beauty, makes Chile one of the most significant tourist attraction of Himachal Pradesh.

6. Fagu

Located 12 Km from the city centre Fagu is a must-visit place for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Situated at an elevation of 2500 meters, Fagu is a serene snow-clad hamlet.

This place looks magical as it is always enveloped in snow and fog. The clouds are so close to the surface that at times it feels as if you are walking on clouds.

7. Jakhoo Hill

Believed to be the highest peak in Shimla, this hill is 8000 feet high and is a major tourist attraction in Shimla.

This temple is a heaven for all the nature lovers and pilgrims who come to visit the historic 108 feet tall Hanuman statue at the Jakhu temple.

It is almost a short trek for adventure seekers which makes it one of the best places to visit in Shimla in February.

8. Kiala Forest

Kiala Forest is located in Kothai region of Shimla. This lush green and densely forested area is a must-visit for adventure junkies and nature lovers.

Enjoy some time in the wilderness along with breathtaking views of the city from the top. There are locker facilities available here so that you can keep your luggage safely and explore the place on foot.

9. Theog

Another quiet escape from the hill station is Theog which is one of the best places in Shimla. Surrounded by the beautiful peaks of the Himalayas, this hill station place to get that lost peace.

Located approximately 32 km away from the main town, this is considered to be one of the ideal weekend getaways.

10. Jonang Monastery

Located in a hilltop, the monastery is a Buddhist learning centre with the resident lamas holding prayers and rituals on a daily basis.

You have to climb a few stairs to reach the monastery but the view from the top is worth it. Attain some nirvana and you will have a peaceful time in Shimla.
