Room With A View

What is the best way to explore a new place? it is not by car, bike or even a cycle. The best way is to talk a walk. to see how the locals live, the life of all of these amazing people flashing by. Finding hidden spots that even your travel guide don't know, and that is exactly what I did on my 4th day of the trip.

I hadn't originally planned any trek or any hike and was just scrolling through numerous pages on google to see what I can do on my final day in Dehradun. I wanted to explore as much as I could as it was my last day. I decided to go to the Tibetian clothe market to buy and just roam around. My trip as usual started and I didn't have a ride to that place and this time I didn't want to order any cab so I decided to walk and take a town bus to that place or auto. I guess I was walking for 20 mins on the road with no auto or bus in sight and the clouds were rolling in. Soon it started to rain and I didn't have an umbrella so I went to the tea stall near me to take shelter to have some tea.

There I saw many people waiting for the rain to stop. I was enjoying the rain when a familiar voice yelled my name. It was Vivek from my Assam trip. I guess it was 2 years ago and he still remembered me. We greeted each otehr with a brofist and he asked what I was doing here.

I told him about my trip and told him and my plans for today. " you should come with us to the Shikhar falls we all are going on a short trek there, if the weather clears up", it was a free trek as per what I got to know so I decided to go with him. There were a total of 6 people including me and our leader Vishal. It was a chance encounter I would never regret. The rain stopped after 2 hours and we were greeted with sunshine. We all set our course to Shikhar falls. It was nice traveling with a group as you get to share so much.

It took us 32 mins to reach to the village from where the hike began. We had the option to drive till the mountain but seeing the weather, the sun, the clear sky we were more than excited to walk. It was really very beautiful on the way. The pakka road ( as we say in India ) ended on the foot of the mountain and it was a climb to the top to reach the main point where the stream comes into life.

There was a calmness in the air and there weren't many people around so we had the whole place to ourselves. Trekking through the waterfall and passing by the shallow lake truly provided you with a genuine feeling of nature. When we reached the falls it was really a place to click instagram friendly pictures.

We took hundreds of pictures and relaxed until we felt the need to go as it was getting dark and we needed to eat something. We hopped in and went to a pizza place to eat and enjoy. There was a local band playing and it was an amazing end to my journey. I greeted vivek and the team goodbye and thanked them for taking me and showing me such an amazing place.

The next moring caught a flight to Delhi and then to my home town. There is much more to explore in Dehra and I promise I will go back someday.
