How To Plan A Weekend Trip To Sikkim

On a tight budget or don't simply have enough time on your hand to take a long vacation? don't worry I have got you covered. Escape your mundane routine an get that short break you most certainly deserve.

Now, something will say first is that the trip I have planned will be very tightly packed as this a short trip and I didn't want to miss out on the good spots.

Here is my 4 days 3 nights short trip to Sikkim.

Day 1: Arrival at Gangtok, Rumtek Monastery:

Arrive at the capital city of Gangtok with an adventurous mind and be ready as the following days will be tiring but worth every while.
check into your hotel and proceed to see Rumtek Monastery. the trip to the monastery will take about 1 hour.

Return back to Gangtok and explore the local markets in the evening and go out for a stroll and don't forget to try local delicacies for your dinner.

Day 2: Gangtok to Lachung:

Wake up early as today is going to be a long one. the trip of Gangtok to Lachung takes about 4 to 5 hours. you can explore many places at Lachung such as the monastery, the Lanchung river and many more.

I will suggest you do some research yourself and see the list of the places you want to see. with so little time on your hand, you have to be careful not to waste too much of time in-between.

Day 3: Lachung, Yumthang Valley, Zero Point. Then Gangtok

Wake up and get ready to face a really tiresome day. The distance from Lachung to Yumthang valley is about 25 kilometres but the roads can be jam-packed in the peak seasons. you may experience traffic jams spanning for 1 hr straight. so I would advise you to get on the road early.

Yumthang valley is really beautiful, a long stretch of grassland filled with flowers surrounded by mountains, trust me you will forget everything around you and just stand there and admire the beauty.

Now get on the road again as the next point on the trip is zero point, places at an altitude of above 15000 ft. it takes about 1.5hr to reach Zero-point from Yumthang valley. One of the most popular places in Sikkim. trust me you don't want to go to this place in the peak seasons.

Day 4: Gangtok to Nathula pass and back

Return back to Gangtok and again proceed on to the next and the last spot on the trip Nathula pass. It takes about 7hr to get from Yumthang valley to Nathula Pass, so be ready to hit the road really early.

It is at a height of approx 14000 ft. Nathula is the last post in India and after that china starts. with mist-covered mountains the months on May, June and July and snow-covered mountains in winter, this place is a must go in whichever season you plan to go.

I hope you liked my itinerary and is not too much tiring for your taste. Leave a comment on how you like this itinerary or even share a better one than mine. I am sure all the readers will find it useful.
