Singapore travel blog | day 1 - Letters From A Nomad - travel blog

Welcome digital nomads, join me on the ultimate adventure that never ends. Each of our life is made up of our experiences and stories that define us. travel is not just about seeing the beauty of the place and an instagram post. Its a feeling, millions of stories of different people around the world, the experience and above all peace.

Singapore is South East Asia’s most prosperous city and smallest nation by land area. In recent years, newly developed mega-attractions and casino driven integrated resorts had transformed this “all work” economic powerhouse into one of the region’s most popular destinations for leisure travel.

I went to Singapore this year on December 3. We boarded our flight from my hometown to Vishakapatnam where we had to wait for 12 hr as the flight was at 1 am and we had to sit there in the airport for 12 hrs. ( pro tip: always carry a book or audiobook or movies to keep you entertained and also carry power banks ). Then we went through the security checks and boarded our flight.

Well, worth the wait. We touched the Singaporean sky at morning 6 am. That was the moment I most regretted not having a camera on me to take a picture of that majestic sight.

I will best try to help you visualize. the city was completely covered with orange light with smoke lifting up and at the horizon, the sun rising. I hope I did some justice and will add a picture to show what I saw at that moment.

We came out of the airport and our cab was waiting for us to pick us up to our hotel. It was 8 am and we all were tired. We checked into our hotel by doing all the formalities and filling a form. The manager was a south Indian guy who was very friendly. Breakfast was being served so we decided to eat our breakfast and then go to sleep for 5 hrs and wake up to have lunch and explore a bit in the neighborhood area.

We woke up at 1pm and had to hurry to our restaurant where we were to have lunch. It was a walkable distance from our hotel so we decided to take a walk. Our hotel was very near to little India which is an Indian colony in Singapore so we had a lot of  Indian restaurants there.  We ate our lunch and got ready for our short walk in little india to explore the culture, food and other art.

We went down to the orchard road to find some cheap local foods and clothes. I ate a fried grasshopper and almost puked, it didn't taste bad or anything but I was too scared to eat it. Next, we bought some clothes from the local shops.

It was about 7 pm when our guide told it was time to go to the night safari and we were already late. we hopped into the van and drove to the Singapore zoo. We bought our tickets and waited in a very long never-ending queue for the safari.

When we finally got to the cart but it was almost full and only the last seats were vacant. trust me I was very scared to sit at the end of the cart but I turned out to be very exciting. I could do my photography without making any trouble for the rest of the passengers.

The ride started and we saw many animals and even one deer came near our cart. I guess he was just as curious as we guys were. The entire tour lasted for 40 mins or so and we were back to the main gate when our guide told that we had missed the animal show. We rushed back in and just in time as it was only getting started.

It was an amazing show and I won't destroy it by saying what happened, you can find many clips of the show on youtube. They raised awareness towards wildlife protection and a numerous number of tricks were performed by various animals whose name I still don't know.

It was time for us to return back to our hotel for dinner. It was quite a gathering and all of us were way too excited for the next day as we will go to Sentosa island. We went to bed at 12 am as we had to wake up early the next morning.

That is it for the first day in Singapore and to know the adventures of our next day suscribe so that you will get notified when the next update comes up.
